1 month in: Stoffel 0.1.0 Launch Retrospective

A month ago, after a year and a half of building, we finally launched Stoffel 0.1.0, our full MPC runtime stack. Stoffel 0.1.0 was built to serve as the foundation for developers looking to build privacy-first apps without compromising functionality and utility. Past MPC stacks were hard to install, had too many configuration options and stayed research grade. In our research, we saw a need for production-grade MPC infrastructure as many folks were relying on research grade MPC software in production. Towards that goal, the past 4 weeks have been fruitful and we wanted to provide a short update about what we've been up to!

Engineering

Shortly after release 0.1.0, we shipped 0.1.1 of Stoffel. We realized that the runner had to be installed separately which led to a worse installation experience for our users. As such, we decided to ship a fix alongside other bug fixes that we had in our backlog.

Community

On the community front, we've achieved more than we had planned within the first 4 weeks to be honest. We held our first X spaces with one of our design partners, Synchronicity. Synchronicity is building accessible trading infrastructure for traders. They leverage Stoffel's ADKG solution to provide better recovery guarantees to their users. Next, we saw our first independent projects built using Stoffel. Vishakh from Monadic DNA built a prototype for a private genomic study built using Stoffel. His feedback has been instrumental in helping us improve the developer experience and reprioritize certain features in our roadmap. You can read his blogpost here.

What's next?

In the coming weeks, we will be focused on producing more content about Stoffel and how developers can benefit from the Stoffel stack. Further, we are implementing several bug fixes for Stoffel's MPC backends and aim to release 0.1.1 of the Stoffel Crypto library. Once this release goes out, Stoffel 0.2.0 is on the horizon.
